Unity presents a $15,000 check to Rick Gould, Director of Plant City YMCA. The funds will enable disadvantaged children to have a safe place to learn, play, and learn to swim during the summer. They will also learn social and relational skills. Unity has been a sponsor of this program since 2011.
Unity gives an additional $3,200 to Lots of Hugs Director, Sharon Moody, to accommodate extra students attending the summer program. Ms. Moody was expecting eighty students, however after one hundred she had to turn them away.
Unity donates $10,000 to the Stuff the Bus project. The Plant City Kiwanis Club originated the drive and is donating $2,000, and Stingray Chevrolet $1,000. The funds purchase backpacks, and school supplies for needy children in the Area Six School District.
Unity Chairwoman Linda Lawson and board member, Steve Hurley presented a five thousand dollar check to Plant City's City Manager, Mike Herr.
